In the very early years of the school "students" were called nurse attendants and lived at "headquarters with the supervisor" [director]. There was no set starting date or graduation date for a given student. These attendants were on 3 months probation after which, if they passed probation, they did an average "3 year engagement." "Practical lessions" were given by the supervisor "between cases."
